What: All Creatures Open Day - Melbourne

Details: This key event is the highlight in many animal lovers’ calendars! With parking at Deakin University and a shuttle bus service linking Deakin to the RSPCA, it’s even easier to have a fantastic day with the whole family while raising valuable funds to assist us in continuing our Animal Welfare Programs.

These include the ever-popular Casterton Kelpie Association, Birds of Prey, Roaming Reptiles and the Eastside Flyers flyball demonstrations. For the smaller animal lovers, there are Pony rides, the Children’s corner and animal nursery to keep them entertained; while the bigger kids will enjoy tours of the surgery, shelter and educational barn. Thanks to Tyrrell’s wine tasting, Poseidon Dips and many food and produce stalls to enjoy, Mum and Dad will be well catered for.

Details: The Eastern Regional Pet Expo will be held on Sunday 6 April, 2008 from 10am to 4pm. The event will be held at the Ferntree Gully Recreation Reserve, Brenock Park Drive, Ferntree Gully. The aim of the day is to promote businesses, organisations and clubs, incorporating all types of animals as pets, at one event with the main theme being Responsible Pet Ownership.

* A snakehandler who will have venomous and non-venomous snakes and pet friendly reptiles;
* Victor and Victoria from the State Governement's Responsible Pet Ownership Program who will perform songs and dances to teach children what to do if approached by a strange or aggressive dog.

What: RSPCA Million Paws Walk!

Details: Come to the Million Paws Walk for a great day of family fun and help raise money for the RSPCA.

The Million Paws Walk is held in May each year in many locations around Australia, with tens of thousands of people and their pets participating. As well as the official walk, there is also lots of entertainment, displays, stalls, vet checks and a host of other activities.

The Million Paws Walk is a great day out for all and an important fundraising and educational event for the RSPCA. Funds raised through the event help assist the RSPCA to operate its animal shelters, support its Inspectorate services and provide community education on animal welfare issues.

The Million Paws Walk will be held on Sunday 18th May 2008 at the Hovell Tree Reserve (behind Albury Swim Centre).

Registrations on the day from 10.00am (See Registrations).

The Million Paws Walk begins at 10.30am.

Details: Meet up at the KCC Park Pavilion (Mel Ref 128 J12) on the Western Port Highway at 6:30pm on Thursday, 29 May for fun dog socialising.

This month our guest speaker will be Vanessa Rolf who is conducting research on canine obesity. She will discuss nutrition, exercise and how to keep your dog fit and fabulous.

This event is held the final Thursday of each month.

What: Wine and Dog Biscuit Tasting

Details: This event will not only feature wine tasting for the grown-up humans, but also Purina biscuit tasting for the canines of the group.

A group of Leonbergers and their owners will be joining us for this event. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet these, big lovely dogs that are a rare breed in Australia.

You can find out what really makes your dog happy and pleases its palate. You might just end up going home with a few bags - not just a few bottles!

Meet at the cellar door at 10:30 for doggy play time and dog biscuit tasting. We will then proceed to the cellar door for wine tasting. If you wish you can enjoy a cuppa or even a light lunch at the cafe.

Please RSVP by 9 July if you'll be joining us so we can make arrangements with the venue.

Don't forget leads, water bowls and a stake for tying up your dogs while we head inside.

JULY THEME: Naughty Dogs Problem behaviour or Behaviour problem?

Dr Jacqui Ley from Animal Behaviour Consultations will join us in July to discuss common behavioural issues and to answer any questions you may have about your dog's specific problems.

Meet at 6:30 pm at the Boxhall Pavilion at KCC Park.

As the days are getting shorter and colder, please note that from May to September we will meet at 6:30 rather than 7, and hold our events inside the Pavilion.

AUGUST - Cold weather and your dog's joints

Pia Kirke from Animal Bodywork had so much fun at our Glamour Night that she is making a return appearance. She will be discussing the effects of cold weather on our dogs' joints and muscles and give you a few tips on how to keep your dog feeling its best.

This is a great one for those with older dogs.

Details: The Big Day Out for Dogs is when KCC Park is open to all dogs and their owners.

This event is FREE to attend and will be packed full of interactive demonstrations, dog sports, fun competitions and plenty of prizes and giveaways.

There will also be breed displays from the familiar family sidekicks to rare breeds you may never have even heard of!

There will also be some great trade stands, so you can get some of your Christmas shopping done early for all the dog lovers in your life.
